A record harvest and poor quality of Russian grain in 2016/17 MG virtually eliminated the seasonality in this segment of the market, thereby creating uncertainty and nervousness in the relations between charterers, traders and shipowners. That's the conclusion reached by the experts "glogos proekt", reported on 28 June, the press service of the company.

So, the report says, in June this year freight rates when transporting grain cargoes from Russian ports by $5-10 per tonne higher than the same month last year. "Additionally, unlike last year, when rates from may to July is practically "frozen" in 2017 freight is constantly changing: it is expensive, it is cheaper, sometimes by $3-4 for a week," the message reads.

Furthermore, one of the reasons of such dynamics of change rates are uncharacteristic for this time of the year, the pace of shipments of grain from the ports of Russia, which is the third month in a row is a record for this period of the season.
