The Sri Lankan government reduced tariffs on imports of corn, rice, wheat, wheat flour, said the Ministry of Finance. This measure is taken in connection with the drought, led to a drop in agricultural production.

Import duty on rice reduced from RS 6 to 25 cents for a period up to 31 December.

Imported corn, which is the major component of feeds for poultry, will be subject to the new 10% tax, which will replace the 15% import duty, 15% VAT and 7.5% of port and airport charges, and other fees. Earlier on all charges accounted for 60 to 70 rupees per kilogram of corn.

Import duty on wheat flour will be reduced from RS 25/kg to 15 rupees, while the duty on wheat (grain) from 9 rupees to 6 rupees.
