At the end of the current season growth will be 3% (344,5 million tonnes in the 2016/17 season), which is below the pace of last season (+5%) but still above the five-year average values (+2%), informs UkrAgroConsult.

In particular, experts expect record consumption by manufacturers of starch, biofuel and beer.

The main increase in consumption for starch production is expected in China after a decline in the domestic price of corn and increased subsidies to its refiners.

In 2017/18 season grain consumption for industrial purposes in China will increase to 77.9 million tons from 69.7 million tons last season. Including 55.8 million tons will be used for the production of starch (47.8 million tonnes in 2016/17), 17.3 million tons for ethanol (17 million tons), and 4.7 million tons for beer production.
