Processing of soybean in Turkey is growing, particularly under the influence of growing demand from the poultry sector. In 2016/17 season, the country produced about 770 thousand tons of soybean meal, which is 5% below the previous season and increased its imports by 35% to 787 thousand tons due to attractive prices. The main suppliers were Argentina (681 thousand tonnes), USA (75 thousand tonnes), Ukraine (22 thousand tons).
In this season, the situation will reverse - import of soybean meal would be reduced to 700 thousand tons, and production will increase to 850 thousand tons, due to the high margin processors and a further increase in demand from the poultry sector.
