About this in his speech at the conference "Middle East Grain Congress" in Dubai, said the independent expert SUNSEEDMAN Veysel Kaya. "Currently we are seeing a mild winter, which, however, adversely affects the condition of wheat crops in the country due to lower snow cover than in previous years. If weather conditions are unfavorable in the period of the harvesting campaign of the grain (end of may – beginning of July), perhaps we should expect even greater reduction in wheat areas," - said the expert.
Under the influence of the above factors, in his estimation, the wheat harvest in Turkey in 2018/19 MG can only reach 17-19 million tons, which is lower than the 2017/18 MG (21 million tons).
"In this regard, Turkey, as a major world exporter of wheat flour and pasta, may be forced to increase the import of wheat in 2018/19 MG. This, in turn, may necessitate that the government will have to reduce customs import duty on grain (which is 45%) or even cancel it, to keep high competitiveness on the world market", - said the speaker.
