Dow AgroSciences announced plans to restrict sales of their new genetically modified varieties of corn and soybeans, to prevent them falling on us domestic or international marketing channels grain markets because it is expecting China to permit the import of these products.

The measure taken by the agricultural division of the Dow Chemical Co, aimed at preventing market problems faced by Sygenta AG and the grain industry in the U.S., when Syngenta has entered into the market of its own particular variety of GM maize without obtaining permission to import to China.

National Association of grain producers approved the measure by which American farmers will remain competitive and will have access to new technology with regard to the laws of the grain markets.

China banned the delivery of over 1 million tons of U.S. corn in the past year, which included GM maize Syngenta called Agrisure Viptera, and several U.S. grain industry players filed a lawsuit on Sygnenta due to the loss of benefits from sales.

In the beginning of this year the national Association of seed and feed reported that American farmers have lost more than $1 billion because of the disruption of trade-related prohibitions.

Representatives of Dow strive to send to market new varieties of seed corn and soybeans, called Enlist. Data crops have been genetically modified to resist the new herbicide Enlist Duo developed by Dow.

But recently, the company said it decided to sell the new corn only on strict conditions, which include requirements that the corn-fed livestock on farms, and not sold. The company said that the farmers who grow corn Enlist, must provide insulation strips around their fields to avoid the harvest of other crops. Compliance will be checked regularly by a third party.

A new variety of soybean Enlist will be offered to farmers as part of a nonprofit program, which will allow a small number of farmers to test new seeds. The company will control seed production, including storage and use after harvest.

Dow has received final approval in the US in culture and Enlist herbicide Enlist Duo this fall after many delays. The company estimates the market opportunity for this product line at $1 billion.

The company expects to resolve China on imports for about two years and has no assumptions, when this permission can be obtained.
