Dow Chemical will limit the sale of GMOs, in order not to anger China

Dow AgroSciences announced plans to restrict sales of their new genetically modified varieties of corn and soybeans, to prevent them falling on us domestic or international marketing channels grain markets because it is expecting China to permit the import of these products.

The measure taken by the agricultural division of the Dow Chemical Co, aimed at preventing market problems faced by Sygenta AG and the grain industry in the U.S., when Syngenta has entered into the market of its own particular variety of GM maize without obtaining permission to import to China.

A new variety of soybean Enlist will be offered to farmers as part of a nonprofit program, which will allow a small number of farmers to test new seeds. The company will control seed production, including storage and use after harvest.

Dow has received final approval in the US in culture and Enlist herbicide Enlist Duo this fall after many delays. The company estimates the market opportunity for this product line at $1 billion.
