Individual countries of the European Union will now be able to ban the cultivation of genetically modified crops in accordance with the compromise agreement, signed this week, which will put an end to a long dispute and can actually intensify the cultivation of GM crops.

List of GM products is waiting for approval of the EU, and the vote on Tuesday in the European Parliament will allow the government to consider it.

Member countries of the EU have the right to choose any approved GM crops, but the voters said that the new law is not sufficiently developed.

Some members of the GM industry is also unhappy and complain that the compromise will now allow countries to ban GM crops on non-scientific reasons.

GM crops that are widely used in the Americas and Asia, has divided Europe into two camps. Many countries, including France and Germany, opposed them, while others, like the UK, they approve.

In 2012, attempt to negotiate a compromise on the cultivation of GM crops in Europe has failed.

The vote in Parliament last Tuesday in Strasbourg, is the final stage of the legislative process. The project will become law once signed by the member States and officially published, it is expected that in the coming weeks.

Vytenis andriukaitis, the European Commissioner for health and food safety, endorsed the outcome of the vote.

EU officials were allowed to date, only two GM crops for commercial production. Later these cultures were blocked one of the highest courts of the EU, which revealed that the EU authorities did not follow the rules when approving these crops.

Branch organization EuropaBio, which represents companies such as Syngenta and Monsanto claims that the compromise agreement sends a negative signal for investment in the sector in Europe and is a sign "Stop" for innovation.

However, representatives of the "green" in the European Parliament, said that he voted against the agreement, because it will simplify the way GM crop in Europe.
