The canadian government is considering possible changes in their policy towards GMOs that may allow the presence of low level of GM contamination in imported foods.

At the moment food containing GMOs, checks on the safety regulator Health Canada prior to issuing a permit for import into the country.

The adoption of the new regulations is not completed issue because criticized by some organizations, including the canadian Biotechnology Network, which calls the measure unreasonable.

Because in the USA more crops produced from genetically modified seeds, this change in regulation can be a huge opportunity for American food companies whose products contain GMO ingredients. More companies will be able to import their products into Canada, which will open adjacent the external market.
