At the end of June-beginning of July of the current year on the territory of Poland, Lithuania and Estonia, where the process of the spread of ASF has been able to keep long after the registration of cases only among wild boars, outbreaks of ASF have been registered in domestic pigs. According to the national reference laboratory for ASF Poland in 2 of 5 infected pigs were able to identify antibodies to the virus that says about the long-term virus circulation in the herd.
Of particular concern is the continuing spread of ASF in the territory of Ukraine in the South and West. The increase in the number of uncontrolled outbreaks of ASF in domestic pigs in previously safe areas, close to Moldova and Romania significantly increases the possibility of cross-border penetration of the pathogen into the territory of these countries.
All of these aspects can greatly increase the risk of further spread of ASF in the countries of South-Eastern and Central Europe.
