"Among the observed types of fruits and vegetables significantly increased prices for fresh cucumbers and tomatoes – by 23.7% and 8.3%, respectively. In addition, grape rose 5.3%, potatoes – by 3.1%, eggs – by 2.2%, beet – by 1.4%," according to the statistical office. Overall food inflation in December was 0.6% on a monthly basis.

At the same time oranges last month became cheaper by 10.6%, lemons – by 10.3%, bananas – by 3.8%, pears – by 1.2%, fruits – by 0.9%. In December significantly increased the prices of milk and individual dairy products. So, curd cheese, glazed with chocolate, rose 2.3%, fresh milk by 1.7%.

Among other observable kinds of food products by 1.9% more expensive cheese, 0.7-1.3% of the eggs and cleaned fish of salmon breeds, salted and smoked delicacies of fish, chicken legs, culinary products from poultry, frankfurters, wieners, smoked sausage, and tea. While 0.1-1% decrease in prices for salt, flour, buckwheat, rice, millet, peas and beans.

The cost of a conventional minimum set of products per month on average in Russia at the end of December 2016 amounted to 3,702 thousand rubles and in comparison with November increased by 0.9% for all of last year – 3.5%. The cost of this food basket in Moscow amounted to 4,448 thousand rubles (growth by 0.8% for the month and 5% YTD), in Saint-Petersburg – 4,466 thousand (plus 0.9% and 4.8% respectively).

After the seasonal decline in prices for cucumbers and tomatoes in summer, Rosstat began to record a significant increase in the prices of these products. In September, fresh cucumbers rose by 15.5% in October to 41.2% in November – by 31.2%.
