The Thai government has allocated a record amount – one billion dollars – to help the farmers of the South, which suffered from devastating floods in the first half of January this year, caused by abnormal rainfall, according to news Agency "Reuters" with reference to the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand.

As a result of flooding, according to the latest data, in the South of Thailand has killed 99 people. Huge damage caused by the flooding of the plantations of rubber and sugarcane have not yet been fully counted.

Thailand is the world's largest producer of natural rubber, providing up to 40% of the world market. For the production of sugar cane and rice country is also one of the first places in the world, the Agency said.

The flood mostly affected the rural areas of the southern provinces, located on the territory of rubber and sugar plantations and rice fields.
