Europe's first commercial multi-tiered greenhouse will appear in the Dutch town of Dronten. A vertical farm company Staay Food Group, a leading manufacturer of fresh fruit and vegetables will serve major European supermarket chain, and will become a platform for testing LED technology for future projects vertical construction.

The area enclosed vertical farms will be 900m2, but thanks to the tiered design, the useful area for growing organic lettuce will increase to more than 3000m2.

"In the lettuce, grown indoors, no pesticides and contains fewer bacteria that will provide a longer shelf life for retailers. In Europe, tiered greenhouses with LED lighting, located exclusively in research centers or restaurants that use only fresh ingredients for cooking.

New farm company Staay in Dronten will be Europe's first commercial industrial scale facility serving major retail network. The farm will start operation in the second half of 2017.
