In the first half of 2017 Russia increased its exports of agricultural products to 18%. The most outstanding figure was the export of sugar, the volume of foreign supplies of which increased 66 times during this reporting period. Total shipments reached a total of 115.4 tons.

This increase is due to record production of sugar beet in 2016 – more than 50 million tons. Then Russia managed to take the championship in the world market in this segment, surpassing the US, Germany and France.

"In 2016 we had a record performance in many positions... I Want to draw attention to the record harvest of sugar beet – more than 50 million tons. Russia came in first place in the world, ahead of countries such as France, USA, Germany. This will allow to produce about 6 million tons of sugar", — said the Minister of agriculture of the Russian Federation Alexander Tkachev.

We will remind, by results of 4 months of the current year the production of sugar in Russia amounted to 527,3 thousand tons, which is by 72% more than the same period of 2016.
