Belarus to take additional measures to restrict imports of pork from several regions of Russia and the Chernigov region of Ukraine in connection with the registration of new cases of African swine fever (ASF), told Sputnik in the Department of veterinary and food supervision of the Ministry of agriculture of the Republic.

It specified that we are talking about Ivanovo, Volgograd and Saratov regions of Russia.

The Department noted that according to the International epizootic Bureau on the territory of these regions of Russia and Ukraine registered the new cases of swine ASF.

"In this regard, taking further measures to prevent importation into the territory of Belarus from Ivanovo, Volgograd and Saratov regions of Russia and Chernigov oblast of Ukraine of live pigs, pork and products of its processing, leather, rogakopita and raw intestines, stubble, wild boars, hunting trophies obtained from the susceptible species of animals, and other products", — specified in Department.

They also added that he had informed about the need to take additional security measures of large pig-breeding complexes of Belarus and agriculture all forms of ownership.

As previously reported, outbreaks of ASF were registered in Belarus in 2013. The struggle against the epidemic has led to a significant reduction of livestock numbers in the second half of 2013. Due to the lack of pork on the domestic market meat prices have increased significantly in the 2014 pork in the domestic market went up by almost 1.6 times.

Last year and this year Belarus continued to impose temporary restrictions on the import of pork from different countries of the world, including from Russia and Ukraine. In February 2017, the Rosselkhoznadzor has imposed restrictions for the Republic of ASF. Last year the government of Belarus adopted a special programme for ASF in the period up to 2020.
