Due to the change in laboratory methods of definition of products containing GMOs, the service will be able to analyze more and more products over a shorter time period. At the same time increase the number of inspections of the CPS will not be able – it would be contrary to the embedded service risk based approach.

That the CPS needs to improve "the quality control of food products produced using biotechnology, including GMOs," said in a government-approved action plan for the implementation of the Strategy for improving the quality of food products in Russia up to 2030.

According to the document, the service must take the appropriate departmental act in 2017-2018. In a press-service of Rospotrebnadzor confirmed that are doing the relevant work, and said that it is to improve laboratory methods for detection of GMOs in products.

On this issue the service has advised the Federal research centre of nutrition and biotechnology. Head of laboratory of safety evaluation of biotechnology and new sources of food FITS food and biotechnology Nadezhda Tyshko said that the centre has already developed an improved method for determining GMO products.

In her words, to determine the presence of GMOs in products will be using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR), however, now the analysis can be done faster.
