The Russian market of vegetables for the year is estimated at 53 million tons, 4% below the level of the 2015 Major share (59%) in the Russian market of fresh vegetables is potatoes. Cabbage of all types accounts for 7% of the market, for tomatoes – 6%.

The share of imported products on the Russian market of fresh vegetables amounted in 2016 less than 3%, the lowest figure for the last 10 years. In the structure of import of vegetables is dominated by tomatoes. More than 52% of all deliveries of fresh vegetables comes from China, Belarus and Egypt.

Russian export of fresh vegetables compared to the import volumes are very small. By the end of 2016, the export of vegetables increased by 42%. Russia exports mainly potatoes and onions. The main partners for exports are Ukraine (59%) and Azerbaijan (29%).

Gross harvest of vegetable crops in Russia, at the end of 2016, decreased by 3%. It is worth noting that the rate has increased for all types of vegetables except potatoes.
