Pork exports from the UK fell below the level of 2016
Compared to the previous month, exports of pork from the UK in June fell markedly, according to Bethan Wilkins, an analyst with AHDB Pork

The supply of fresh/frozen pork during the month declined by 5% compared with a year earlier to 17.5 million tons. Limited availability of the exported goods, probably continued to influence exports and pork production in the UK during the month decreased by 2% compared to June of 2016.

The decline of pork exports also exacerbated by slower demand from China, and delivery to 15% lower than in June 2016. Meanwhile, trade with the EU showed a smaller decline – only 2% yoy. The fall of supply in Ireland and Denmark partially offset by an increase in exports to the Netherlands and Germany.

However, the increase in average price per export unit meant that the value of exports of pork in the UK is still 11% higher than in June 2016, and amounted to 24.5 million pounds.

Reducing the cost of supply in China and lower prices in the US led to the fact that the EU share in the export market value of pork in the UK has increased to 70%. In 2016, the figure was 60%.

In June, the volume of shipments of by-products also decreased by 4% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 5.7 thousand tons.

A 30 percent reduction of supplies in China, main destination of exports of these products from the UK, has led to a General decline. However, the impact of this was reduced a significant increase in deliveries to Hong Kong (+64%) and the Philippines (+112%).

Conversely, the export of other pork products such as bacon, sausage and processed swining, rose strongly in June compared with the previous month and June 2016.

However, there are some doubts about these figures, given that the increase was due to unusually large shipments to Denmark and the Netherlands during the month.

Imports of fresh/frozen pork in June showed the first decline on an annual basis from March 2016, a decrease of 2% to 40.1 thousand tons. This was due to a 21 percent reduction in imports from Denmark. However, notable growth continued from other key suppliers.
