The Minister reported about it last week at a meeting of the provincial Parliament. Depending on the weather and availability of food the number of wild boars ejegodno increased by 200-300%. If last year was 60 killed about 700 boars, but this year this number should rise to 80 000.

According to the information Bakhaus, in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern there are about 200 farms with a total population of about 830 000 head. According to the Minister, the outbreak of African swine fever threatens severe economic losses: in Germany, 26,000 farms to 28 million pigs, more than 40 enterprises for slaughter and processing of meat with approximately 3 700 employees and having a turnover of 980 million euros.

The whole industry may suffer from recession sales and restrictions on pork exports. This scenario is very likely, since in Poland it is obvious the spread of the disease in the Western direction, and pure chance is the fact that so far Germany has not yet suffered.

The official also expressed the hope that the information of Australian and American scientists have received in the genome of pigs, will soon be used in the development of vaccines against ASF. We will remind, some days ago the Australian epizootic laboratory announced the success in the elucidation of the response mechanism of the immune system of animals to the emergence of the virus and its spread in the host organism.

According to the summer assessment Institute Friedrich Leffler, the risk of penetration of African swine fever in Germany identified moderately high.
