Poland: plans of the ASF control is impossible
The Supreme chamber of control of Poland (BCP) criticises the government over ways to combat ASF. According to inspectors from the CPSU, the provisions of the Biosafety program was unreal. Scientists, in turn, said that the country is threatened by the spread of the virus throughout its territory. Losses exceed 4 billion euros.

Information on this issue was discussed yesterday at a meeting of the Seimas Committee on agriculture. According to the CPSU, the problem is very serious - as a result of the spread of the virus of African swine fever Poland faces a sharp decline in pigs and a significant change in the structure of the herd. The threat also applies to the processing and export of meat and culinary tastes of the poles.

The inspectors reviewed the implementation experience of the country's Biosafety program, which was to protect the farm from the access virus. In the end, they came to the conclusion that the provisions of the program were unrealistic. The average cost of adaptation to anti-epizootic requirements is about 30 thousand zlotys (more than 7 thousand euros), and for the owners of small farms is prohibitively expenses. According to the CPSU, only 6% of households had the chance to fulfill these requirements, and the Ministry of agriculture of perfectly knew about it. The Supreme audit chamber also pointed to the mistakes of the farmers, who regularly record the movement of pigs in the system of identification and registration of animals.

This is not the first test programmes to combat the spread of the virus. In 2015, the CPSU warned that it is necessary to do to avoid the epidemic of ASF.

The fact that the situation is serious, confirmed by the scientists who remind us that in the countries in which the question lightly, happened temporary cessation of pig production (Cuba, Angola, Russia, Malta). So it was in Spain, which struggled with Achs 30 years.

- In Spain the disease has begun in 1969 and 30 years, nothing was done (or was done the way it is now in Poland), and as a result the disease has spread throughout the country. When in 1981 the farmers rebelled and decided to open protest, the government quickly set to work and destroyed the ASF in Spain for 6 years. Considering that 2.5 years is in Poland, it seems that we are moving in the direction of the Spanish scenario. First, the disease will cover the entire country, then we will see the consequences of this and then start to treat the issue seriously, says Professor Pasuk from the State veterinary Institute.

Is an error to introduce biosecurity measures only where the disease has already occurred. We need to think about biosecurity in all of Poland, concluded Professor Pasuk.
