The Ministry of industry and trade of the Russian Federation is discussing with retailers the expansion of the use paper packaging instead of traditional plastic bags. This was announced by the Minister of industry and trade of Russia Denis Manturov, speaking at the Forestry forum.

"We are working on other possible directions to increase the capacity of the domestic market. In particular, are now discussing with retailers the expansion of the use paper packaging instead of traditional bags," he said.

The Russian branch of the environmental organization Greenpeace has sent 20 largest food retailers of the country letters with the offer and voluntarily phase out implementation in the stores of disposable plastic bags and replace them with reusable alternatives.

Earlier, Auchan announced the termination of free distribution of plastic bags-t-shirts. The decision applies to all 62 of the store network in Russia.
