In South Africa is expected to increase citrus production
In season 2017/18 citrus producers in South Africa expect crop growth and exports in all segments, except tangerines, where the gross yield will decline due to drought in the major production regions, FreshPlaza informs citing the Ministry of agriculture, U.S. (USDA)

Production of grapefruit in South Africa in the season of 2017/2018 will increase by 9% and will reach 400 thousand tonnes mostly due to the expansion of the area under this about a cultural plenty. In turn, export these citrus fruits will grow by 8%: it is expected that its share will amount to 250 thousand tons.

Further production growth in the segment of lemons is estimated by the Ministry of 6%. Thus, the total gross yield of this product per season-2017/2018 are expected to amount to 420 thousand tons, of which 310 thousand tons will be exported (+3% compared with the season-2016/17).

A less pronounced growth of production and exports is expected in the segment oranges. Their gross yield compared to last year's figures are expected to increase 2% to 1, 43 million tons, while exports will reach 1.18 million tons, which is 1% higher than the results of the previous season.

At the same time, adverse weather conditions negatively affect results of activity of producers and exporters of tangerines in season 2017/18. So, the gross harvest of fruit will be reduced by 9% to 230 thousand tons, and the exports will amount to 15%, and its volume will be only 180 thousand tons.
