The government of the Vologda region plans to increase the area under flax doubled - up to 10 thousand ha and the production of flax - 2-3 thousand tons to 5 tons until 2020 in the implementation of sectoral programs. Agreed to develop a state program for the development of flax cultivation by 2025. Earlier it was reported that the agriculture Ministry has studied the experience of the Vologda region to create the strategic program of development of flax and fold increase in production of flax. The program will provide reimbursement for the purchase of machinery, equipment, construction and reconstruction of production facilities in the amount of up to 80%.

Vologda region takes today the second place in Russia in crops of flax (5.3 hectares, or 12% of the total area in the country). Today flax is grown on 14 farms in nine municipalities. Their products are delivered to Udmurtia, Ivanovo and Yaroslavl region. In 2015, the Vologda flax mill has received and sold approximately 1.5 thousand tons of flax fiber, in 2016 - 1.8 thousand tons. In 2017, the farmers planned to receive 4 thousand tons of flax fiber, but because of the cold and wet summer, a significant portion of the crops died.
