The first stage of implementation of the investment project worth about 1.7 billion rubles and it is for 2018-2020 will be the construction of a flax spinning factory. As raw materials the production will use vysokovoltnoe long fiber, the most popular on the market. The plant, which will be built on the grounds of the industrial Park "Safonovo", it is planned to create more than 240 new jobs.

"We aim to return the region to become a leader in flax, which took Smolensk in the Soviet period. Over the past five years we have come much closer to this goal, taking the end of last year the first place in the Central Federal district and the second place in Russia on production of flax fiber," said the Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy.

However, he noted that the regional authorities are ready to render maximum assistance in realization of investment project.

"The construction of a modern flax — the first in the Smolensk region over the past 30 years — will be the first step in creating a full production cycle, since in the future we are also considering the possibility to engage in the cultivation of flax," — said in his turn Konstantin crutch, the words quoted by the press service of the Governor.

The press service said that the agreement on the implementation of the investment project is planned to be signed at the St. Petersburg international economic forum in may this year.
