According to "analysis of hazelnut market in Russia", prepared BusinesStat in 2018, in recent years its industrial production in the country is actively developing: through walnut orchards, attracts investments to the industry. However, to ensure the needs of the domestic market production volumes is clearly not enough. The bulk of hazelnuts imported into Russia from abroad, key suppliers – Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey. In 2017 imports exceeded the volume of domestic production 6.7% (9.5 thousand tonnes against 1.4 thousand tonnes, respectively).

From 2013 to 2017 natural sales of hazelnuts on the Russian market decreased by 1.3% from 11.0 to 10.8 thousand tons In 2015 indicator showed a drop of 32.0% compared to 2014, in other years it was observed the annual growth of 6.1 18.5 per cent. The decline in sales in 2015 was the result of increased product prices. So, in 2015 the retail price of the hazelnut has reached 558,0 rubles per kg, which is 69.2% higher than the value for 2014 (in 2014 – 329,8 rubles per kg). In turn, the price increase was due to several reasons. First, the sharp devaluation of the ruble in 2014 and 2015 reflected in the ruble cost of imported nuts. Secondly, a record low harvest of hazelnuts in Turkey, and the cessation of supplies from a number of countries in connection with the introduction of Russian food embargo, led to a rise in the dollar prices of imports ($4.7 per kg in 2014 to 7.1 us $ per kg in 2015). The situation on the market has exacerbated the decline in real incomes, which led to further decline in demand in 2015

According to the estimates of BusinesStat, in 2018-2022 gg genuine sale of hazelnuts will grow on 1,7-4,2% annually (with a tendency to decrease after short-term growth in real incomes in the 2018-2020 biennium are expected to keep falling). In 2022 sales of hazelnut in Russia will amount to 12.5 thousand tonnes, which exceeds the level of 2017 by 15.2%.
