The volume of production of Pacific salmon during fishing season this year in the far East is expected in the area of 490 thousand tons, which is almost a record number in recent years. This was reported by TASS Director of the Russian research Institute of fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) Kirill Kolonchin.

"It is expected that the forthcoming Putin will be close to a record volume of production of Pacific salmon. Their total catch forecast for the Far East is 490 thousand tons. the Main approaches are expected in Kamchatka, which is almost 300 thousand tons", - he said.

Kolonchin also added that this year is expected continuing trend of displacement areas of the production of Pacific salmon from the South to the North in connection with the warming in the first place, this trend applies to Sakhalin and the Amur river. At the same time, projections indicate that the catch of Pacific salmon in these fishing areas may be not less than 85 thousand tons of the Total catch in Sakhalin region and Khabarovsk region is expected to reach 150 thousand tons.

Previously TASS reported that, in General, far Eastern marine basin in the last year Putin produced little more than 350 thousand tons of Pacific salmon, which is 200 thousand tons less than the record production level of 2009.

The study of Pacific salmon

As said the Director of VNIRO, at the end of 2017, acting Vice-Premier of Russia Arkady Dvorkovich instructed for the complex study of Pacific salmon. In the framework of this mandate, and subordinate to the Federal Agency for fishery of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) organizations should conduct joint research necessary for the regulation of fishing and reproduction of Pacific salmon.

"In the coming fishing season will run about 70 seasonal observation points. Most of them will be located in industrial fishing sites that will allow you to track the progress of the fishery and to respond quickly to possible changes in the fishing environment. One of the main priorities will be to assess the number of producers of Pacific salmon, missed on the spawning grounds," said he.

In addition, Kolonin stressed that VNIRO has prepared a regional strategy for fisheries for Pacific salmon in 2018. Now they are under consideration by the scientific Advisory Board for Pacific salmon under the Board of Directors of fisheries research institutes and later will be discussed at the meeting of the far Eastern scientific and fishery Council in Kamchatka.

Strategies prepared recommendations for the fishery of these fishes in 2018, including the timing of fisheries in the far Eastern regions and modes of crossing days as well as the placement of scientific observers participating in the collection of materials for scientific support of the fishing season.
