The total number of pigs in the Vladimir region for the year decreased by approximately two times due to ASF. About this to journalists on Wednesday, Deputy Governor of the region Alexander Trutnev.

"We have not so much left in pig. If we talk about the total number, we have 38 thousand, and the population we have 1.8 thousand heads only <...>Three years ago we had 130 thousand livestock, the last two years - 80 thousand", - he said.

As previously reported, in 2017 the number of domestic pigs in personal subsidiary farms of the region was reduced by half, and in large farms - from 80 thousand to 54 thousand heads. The main reason for the reduction of livestock was the spread of African swine fever. In 2017, the region recorded about 30 foci of dangerous diseases. This year in connection with the reduction in the number of authorities assess the epidemiological situation as stable since the beginning of the year recorded only one case of ASF.

Additionally, the administration of the region from January 1 launched a program to support the development of alternative types of livestock that will be 81 million.
