Leningrad oblast plans to meet the needs of its population in the cheese and put it on foreign markets. For this to the six already operating in the region sarovaram plants will add five new production facilities in Vsevolozhsk, Gatchina, Priozersk, Luga and Volosovsky areas.

The concept of creating a cheesy cluster of Leningrad region was presented to the participants of the St. Petersburg international economic forum, announced may 25 in the regional government.

"Companies will process annually 108 thousand tons of milk (18.5% of the total volume produced by agricultural enterprises of the region). When the designed capacity by 2021, the performance of the five plants will amount to 10.8 thousand tons of products per year", — said the press service of the Leningrad region.

This will allow to fully provide the residents of the Leningrad region cheese, based on the recommended norms of consumption of cheese in the 7 kg per person. In addition, the region will become an exporter of cheese.

For the first quarter of 2018 in the Leningrad region produced of 99.7 tons of cheese (101.3% for the corresponding period in 2017). For four years, cheese production in the region increased almost 4 times. In 2013, the economy of the Leningrad region produced about 100 tons of cheese, at the end of 2017 made a 451 ton.

Today the regional enterprises produce more than 20 types of cheeses. Production is organized in six major dairy factories, dairy farms shops and hundreds of farms.
