Astrakhan farmers last year sent abroad 70 thousand head of sheep, 10 thousand head of cattle, and 40 tons of meat, exports increased 2.5 times in comparison with the year 2016. In addition, Astrakhan oblast in November and the beginning of deliveries of meat in carcass form directly to Iran. The "Meat" has received all necessary certificates, the slaughter of animals in a slaughterhouse takes place in the religious customs of Iran with the participation of the mullahs. For two months last year, the Islamic Republic managed to put about 40-50 tonnes of mutton.

Astrakhan region Governor Alexander Zhilkin told TASS that the construction of two slaughterhouses in Liman area of interested investors from Iran. "We record an increase in exports of meat in Iran, and in the capacity of a single massacre in Limansky district is not enough. Therefore, the Iranian side informed that the two investors intend to build two modern abattoirs in the same Limansky district," - said Zhilkin.

He noted that the projects on construction of modern slaughterhouses will be supported in the region. It is planned that through them the meat for export will be able to send not only Astrakhan, but also the neighboring regions, where livestock development. According to the regional Ministry of agriculture, with the beginning of the year, on may 1, Iran has already sent 159 tons of lamb meat. In addition, Jordan, Georgia, Azerbaijan alive sent 25 thousand heads of sheep and 2.7 thousand cattle.

On 1 January 2018, the number of sheep in the region is 1 million 477 thousand heads (an increase for the year of 3.7%), cattle - 289 thousand (an increase over the year - 1.5%). The region provides itself with lamb and beef.
