The bill amends spectacor on specific measures associated with occurrence of African swine fever (ASF) in the territory of the Republic of Poland dated 5 September 2016, As explained by the Deputy Minister of agriculture Rafal Romanovsky, the amendments require that, in addition to the sale of processed meat products, it will be possible to sell meat of healthy pigs from farms located in areas covered by the prohibitions, regulations or limitations in connection with the occurrence of ASF. He stressed that such decisions await farmers, because they can't sell grown pigs.
It is assumed that the supply of pork, the relevant veterinary requirements as to meat products produced from pigs from areas with restrictions in connection with ASF, will not apply the law on public procurement. Special opportunities will be provided to public institutions, mainly the financial sector.
The bill should enter into force on the day following its publication. According to the Deputy Minister, early entry into force of the new rules is necessary because of the special situation of farmers in these territories. The changes should apply to more than 5 thousand farms.
Opposition MPs were critical regarding the possible sale of meat from areas of threats to the ASF, they indicated the possibility of spreading the virus to other areas and thus further progress of the disease. Romanovsky assured, however, that this decision applies only to healthy pigs, examined by the veterinary doctor.
