The grain harvest in Samara region due to drought has declined by almost a third
Last year was harvested record amount of grain on the results of the harvesting campaign, more than 2.75 million tons of grain

In the Samara region, according to September 17 and produced 1.65 million tons of grain. It is reported by the regional Ministry of agriculture.

According to the Agency, over 64% of gross crop is winter wheat and spring wheat. In the framework of the completion of the harvesting campaign agrarians of the region remains to clean corn for grain and a small area of chickpea, millet and buckwheat.

Recall that in 2017, according to 6 September, the total amount of harvested grain amounted to 2.5 million tons. It was removed about 80% of the acreage. Thus, the grain harvest has fallen compared with the previous year to 850 thousand tons or by 34%. According to the results of the harvesting campaign last year, it was gathered 2.7 million tonnes of grain in net weight. The average yield made up 26 centners per hectare.

As previously reported IA REGNUM, the regional Ministry of agriculture had forecast the grain harvest in the current year at the level of 1.7−1.8 million tons in mid-summer.
 

The Agency noted that the crops were affected by soil and atmospheric drought due to lack of rain. The lack of moisture has led to drying up of plants.

Thus in the summer of 2017, the head of the regional Ministry of agriculture Alexey Popov also spoke about the difficult weather conditions that led to certain losses, calling the situation "difficult but not critical". Then in some areas of the region in June fell to 3.5 monthly precipitation, and the night cold did not allow to fully develop such crops as corn and sunflower.

In 2016, Samara Ministry of agriculture predicted a total yield in excess of 2.1 million tons, and plans are confirmed. The Ministry said that the record figure was achieved thanks to the planned corn with an average yield of 36.9 t/ha.
