DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF THE FGBI "VGNKI" JULIA MELANO TOOK PART IN THE OPENING OF THE 28TH CONFERENCE OF THE OIE REGIONAL COMMISSION FOR EUROPE
In the period from 17 to 21 September in Tbilisi (Georgia) held the 28th Conference of the Regional Commission of the International epizootic Bureau (OIE) for Europe.

The event was attended by over 120 representatives from 42 countries. Russia this year is newly appointed permanent delegate to the OIE Nikolai Vlasov, Deputy head of the Rosselkhoznadzor. In the opening ceremony of the conference took part Deputy Director of the fgbi "VGNKI" for international cooperation Julia Melano.

The programme includes detailed analysis of the epizootic situation in the European region, a discussion of current research of the OIE reference laboratories in the fight against antibiotic resistance and their work in other areas of research and searching for the most effective measures to solve global problems in the field of veterinary. Adopted during the conference, the joint solution will be incorporated in the five-year work plan of the OIE. Developed in the framework of the conference recommendations will be presented for approval at the world Assembly of delegates OIE in may 2019. Approved recommendations will be a guide for all member countries the OIE, in particular for Europe.

On 17 September with a welcome speech delivered by the Minister of the environment and of agriculture of Georgia Levan Davitashvili, who noted the country's achievements in the fight against animal diseases. In particular, we are talking about reducing the number of FMD outbreaks in the country and recognition of some territories free from the virus. However, along with this, there are other dangerous diseases (such as nodular dermatitis), with which Georgia will have to fight.

Director General of the International epizootic Bureau Monique Eloi, in his speech stressed the necessity of holding such events, noting that this is a unique opportunity to discuss in more detail the regional problems and existing practices of their decisions and to develop joint recommendations to ensure epizootic well-being in individual countries and around the world.

Monique Eloi also noted the continuing spread in the European region diseases such as rabies, plague of small ruminants animals and African swine fever. In this way was stressed a special role of the veterinary services of countries in the fight against diseases and the need for open and promptly inform the OIE about all emerging outbreaks.

President of the Regional Commission of the International epizootic Bureau for Europe Maris Balodis said that the results of such meetings largely determine the future of the epizootic well-being in the European region.
