On Monday the Executive Director of the Federation of agricultural associations of South Africa AgriSA OMRI van Zyl in an interview with RIA Novosti said that the farmers of South Africa appreciates the potential of Russia in the field of agriculture and are interested in sharing experience with the Russian Federation. According to him, Russia and South Africa the great potential in cooperation and trade relations.
"Incentive to increase exports of food products from Russia could be the development of the market of deep processing products. The retail segment in South Africa is growing very fast, just last year, sales in this area amounted in monetary terms 44.9 billion dollars," said bereznyuk.
He noted that in 2017, Africa imported food worth 2.5 billion dollars, with more than 35% of the market among the importers took the countries of the European Union. "Promising export items to the South African market can be different kinds of nuts — almonds, chestnuts, hazelnuts, cashews, walnuts and pistachios, fish and seafood, especially salmon, alcoholic beverages, sugar syrups, poultry meat and vegetable oil," he listed the expert.
According to the interlocutor of the Agency, South Africa might increase its imports of wheat, however, bereznyuk has expressed doubt that Russia will be able to dramatically increase the supply of wheat in the country. At the same time, the increase in the share of Russian export can occur under favorable price conditions. "In other sectors, Africa is working with already established suppliers, and we need a serious effort to gain market share," concluded bereznyuk.
