Anthrax is particularly dangerous zoonotic infection of wild and farm animals as well as humans. The causative agent of anthrax – Bacillus anthracis – spore-forming gram-positive aerobic bacteria. Its spores are resistant to heat and drying and can persist in the soil.
For the prevention of disease annually in Russia carried out mass immunization of farm animals is a vaccine against anthrax. This builds the main part of the animals intense immune response which provides protection from disease. However, part goat breeds and some horses develop serious post-vaccination complications, which sometimes lead to death of the animals.
Thus, today vaccination of goats and horses against anthrax is causing the problem with the immune status of animals, the dissatisfaction of the owners of the animals and their mistrust of the veterinary service. Postvaccinal complications in goats following immunization against anthrax in recent years was registered in farms of Voronezh, Moscow and Tula regions, in Tatarstan, Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria and Chuvash Republic.
New research work fgbu "VGNKI" will be devoted to the improvement of security control used today, vaccines against anthrax and to determine the reactogenicity of different goats breeds to different cultures of the vaccine strains of Bacillus anthracis. Researchers of the laboratory quality control and standardization of bacterial drugs Center to optimize vaccine dose and scheme of immunization of goats and other animals.
The tests will be attended by Russian white goats, brown goats Czech, snow goats, Orenburg goats, saranskie, Nubian, Alpine, and Angora Cameroonian pygmy goats – goats of the rocks occurring in the territory of the Russian Federation. To determine safe and optimal immunizing dose of the vaccine for goats, scientists will carry out continuous monitoring of the maintenance of antibody titers in the blood of immunized animals.
The result will be the creation of optimal schemes of immunization of goats against anthrax and execution of the relevant guidelines.
