In 2018, the country was 2443 confirmed cases of African swine fever. In an average week, revealed 47 cases of ASF. For comparison, the average number of cases per week in 2017 amounted to 14 and the average for 2014-2017 - a little more than 4.

In the last 12 months of ASF in wild boars occurred in four provinces Mazowiecki, Lublin, Podlasie and Warmia-Mazury. In these provinces were identified, respectively, 976, 924, 216 and 327 cases of the disease. This means that only one of Mazovia in the past year has been detected more cases than in the previous four years.

In 2018 in Lublin Voivodeship calmed down the situation in the North-Eastern part of the region, but the disease moved to the South.

The first cases of ASF, warmińsko-Mazurskie province began to appear in the beginning of last year, and for several months the virus has been kept at a limited area, however, mid-year, the disease appears almost along the entire border of Poland with the Kaliningrad region.

Most cases of the disease this year came in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship, and the maximum concern to experts is the shift of the area of ASF in the direction of the łódź Voivodeship: in December, the disease was detected in wild boars at a distance less than 20 kilometers from the boundary of the łódź Voivodeship, and it is in third place in the country from the point of view of the pigs.

Relatively well the situation in the region, where it all began - in Podlasie. On site confirmed 9% of all cases of the disease. However, it is alarming density of patients boars in the North of the region.

According to experts, in the coming year, there was no indication of improvement. Strong pressure of the pathogen in the environment and problems with the implementation of the shooting of wild boars is not allowed to be optimistic. The worst what may face Poland is the arrival of the virus in the major breeding regions: greater Poland, Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, in southern part of the Lodz Voivodeship and to the North of Mazovia. Unfortunately, everything indicates that sooner or later a black scenario.
