Seminar of the Rosselkhoznadzor carried out, in order to once again draw the attention of professionals and the public on the importance of limiting the use of antibiotics and their rational use in breeding. In their speeches, the speakers stressed that the decrease in the use of antibacterial drugs in veterinary medicine is one of the priorities of international and national policy to ensure the health of humans and animals.
Nikolai Vlasov said that Russia will launch national program designed to solve the problem of presence of residues of various drugs and especially antibiotics in foods of animal origin.
The national program aims to restrictions that exclude uncontrolled use of antimicrobial drugs and antibiotics; to improve the monitoring of their prescription and eventually to the complete exclusion of antibiotics from animal products. In addition, the program provides for the creation of a list of classes of antibiotics that will be applied with the restriction or to be banned completely for use in veterinary medicine.
Nikolay Vlasov also reported negative consequences, which result from the uncontrolled use of antibiotics in livestock production. The Deputy Head of the Rosselkhoznadzor called on livestock producers not to ignore the instruction to use drugs and to strictly observe the periods of removal from the animal organism, and to take measures to prevent the misuse of antimicrobials in curative, preventive and other purposes.
Employee VGNKI Dmitry Makarov made a report about Russian and international strategies to combat antibiotic resistance. Specialist provided examples of the successful implementation of measures to limit the use of antibiotics in several countries and reported sold in VGNKI research work on monitoring of resistance of zoonotic bacteria.
