Researchers from the University of Valencia (Spain) made a discovery – a pigment from the class of carotenoids, which is contained in tangerines and other citrus fruits, helps to reduce body fat by 30%.

Information about the study was published in the March issue of Fruit Juice Focus. According to scientists, this discovery may be important for weight loss. The results of this study will allow a deeper understanding of cellular mechanisms, starting after the reception of the pigment and to study its future role in the prevention of diseases associated with metabolic processes and aging.

The work continues, but now scientists say about the possible use of this substance in the food industry: the pigment can be used as an additive in dairy products and yeast, soft drinks, skim milk. You should also not forget about the direct consumption citrus juices. It is noted that the beneficial effects of carotenoids should be considered as an additional therapy for obesity, but not as a replacement drugs or diets.

A carotenoid found mainly in colored fruits and vegetables – the pumpkin and the tomatoes, mango, peaches, apricots and sea buckthorn. According to the Russian Union of juice producers, the leader in content of carotenoids in fruits is an exotic fruit passion fruit. In a serving of juice out of it contains from 2 to 7 mg of β-carotene, which is an average of 80% of the daily requirement of this substance. The juice of passion fruit is one of the main components of multifruit juice.
