In the city of Alashankou in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous region in Northwest China began construction of a slaughterhouse where to hide live cattle imported straight from Kazakhstan, according to April 2, Xinhua news Agency.

The total investment in the project, consisting of five quarantine farms, will be 660 million yuan ($98 million). It is expected that 100 thousand head of beef cattle will pass through the slaughterhouse every year after its introduction into operation in October 2019.

Another 140 thousand animals will undergo a quarantine process before to be boarded on the second phase of the construction project, the construction of which will be completed in October 2020.

The representative of the Ministry of agriculture of Kazakhstan Aman Utegulov noted that 10 thousand farms, as well as 5 to 6 thousand factories of food industry of Kazakhstan will be engaged in the supply of meat for the Chinese project.

According to one of the Chinese officials responsible for the project, Fanzone, this initiative is an important measure to deepen and expand trade connectivity between the two countries.

Note that the Chinese authorities are creating on the basis of the Alashankou land port of import meat, food products and automobiles. More than 18 million tons of cargo passed through the port in 2018 with a total value of 77.9 billion yuan, up by 8.9% and 7.3% respectively higher than a year earlier.
