Milk does not compare on the prohibition of advertising infant formula

Drugs, mixtures and physiotherapeutic devices should not be advertised — these sectors has made the business, believes Altai doctor with years of practice. Commenting on the correspondent of IA REGNUM submitted to the state Duma a bill which proposes to ban advertising of mixes intended for feeding of children under one year of age, he explained:

"After the Second world war, manufacturers began to advertise dry mix, with an emphasis on their ideal lineup as substitutes for breastfeeding. At this time, more than half of American children grow up in industrially produced mixtures. In 1977 began a boycott of mixes Nestle — activists have accused the company that its products leads to increased mortality among infants.

To date, 69 countries have introduced into domestic law a total ban on advertising of breast milk substitutes. The law does not provide for such measures. Federal Law "on advertising" says that "advertising of baby foods should not represent them as full substitutes for breast milk and contain a statement about the benefits of artificial feeding of children. It should contain data on age restrictions of application of such products and a warning about the need for specialist advice".

Obviously, the state Duma has considered the extent of this law is insufficient and decided to join the who adopted in the distant 1981, the "International code of marketing of breast-milk substitutes", which provides for a ban on advertising and promotion of infant formula to a wider audience and a number of other restrictions. The who notes that "mothers are often exposed to active influence of incorrect and biased information about the benefits of artificial formulas".

Despite the advanced technologies of production of these blends, they never can compare to mother's milk beneficial for the child. The introduction of a bill restricting the advertising of infant formula are long overdue, and such a law will certainly serve to strengthen the health of the younger generation."

 

We will remind, the bill to ban advertising of infant formula introduced in the state Duma of the Russian Federation members of the Federation Council. According to the Senator Sergey Leonov, advertising of infant formula may contribute to the failure of women from breastfeeding.
