Poultry will become the most consumed protein in the world
In 2019 poultry meat will become the most consumed meat protein in the world, because African swine fever is spreading across China

The participants of the recent meeting of the International poultry Council (IPC) discussed trends in the global meat market: this year, the total production of pork in the world will be reduced, and poultry will occupy the vacated niche.

Changes in the market structure due to the African swine fever (ASF) on 3 continents and in 15 countries. It is expected that the production loss in 2019 will amount to 14% or more of current world supply of pork.

"The loss of pigs in China from-for Achs will cause a huge upheaval in the world markets of protein, and the winner will end up, poultry farmers," said Christine McCracken, a senior analyst at Rabobank.

Outbreaks of ASF destroy pork production, mainly in the Eastern hemisphere, but in the most complex situation is China, which accounts for almost half of the pigs in the world. Recall that African swine fever causes 100 percent mortality in infected animals and vaccines currently do not exist.

ASF was discovered in China in August 2018 and is now being distributed in Southeast Asia and Vietnam. Vietnam is the fifth largest global producer of pork.

"China produces 98% of its pork, so the projected 30 percent reduction of supply by year-end would reduce the total global supply of protein in 2019," said McCracken.

According to experts, the world will not be able to fill the upcoming 10% deficit in the supply of meat proteins.

"It is expected that the import of all proteins (beef, poultry and seafood) will have a limited short-term impact. Prices on all proteins will increase," she said.

Presumably, China will increase domestic production and import of other proteins, such as eggs, beef, seafood and poultry.
