In view of the continuing spread of ASF within and outside the European Union, Institute of Friedrich Leffler (IFLA) has updated its assessment ofrisks. In particular, it has been overvalued, the risk of introduction of African swine fever in population of wild boar in Germany.

The outbreak of ASF in Belgium increased the risk of introduction to Germany. Achs jump long distances (e.g. in Belgium, Hungary, Czech Republic) clarifies, according to the Institute, the existing risk of getting Achs in Germany as a result of human action. With the emergence of epizootic diseases in South-East Belgium, the risk of the spread of German territory was greatly increased by the migration of infected wild boar. Accordingly, the IFLA assesses the risk of penetration of ASF infected wild boar in areas adjacent to the infected area of Belgium.

The risk of ASF in the human body remains high. For all other considered scenarios of drift Achs classification of risks has not changed compared to the previous risk assessment, conducted in July 2017. The risk of penetration of African swine fever in Germany in the result of illegal transfer and disposal of contaminated material is still considered the highest in the IFL.

In addition, the risk of penetration or pork products produced from infected animals by road network or vehicles or people is still considered high in the case of "worst case scenarios". The risk of skidding when hunting tourism and bring a hunting trophy from the affected areas of the IFLA assessed as moderate.
