Food products in Russia rose in may by 0.5% in the EU - 0.6% - Rosstat
Rosstat has published information on consumer price indexes in Russia and foreign countries in may 2019 on the basis of Eurostat and national statistical offices.

Consumer food prices in Russia in may compared to the previous month increased by 0.5%. Compared to December 2018 food prices increased by 4.1%.

In EU consumer prices for food last month increased by 0.6%. In January-may, food prices rose 1.7%.

Thus, food products in Russia in January-may rose in price by 2.4 times faster than in the EU.

The EU in may the largest increase in food prices compared with the April 2019 was observed in the Czech Republic (2.3%), Slovenia (2.1%), Latvia (1.6 percent); since the beginning of this year in Romania (6.1%), Slovakia (5.5%), Poland (5.3%).

In the individual EU member States, a decrease in consumer food prices, including in Finland, in Cyprus, in Greece it was pretty noticeable - by 0.9-1.5% compared with April.

In Russia in may, the largest increase in prices was observed for fruit of 2.6% (the average for the countries of the European Union - 3.5%) and vegetables 1.2% (in EU prices of vegetables were higher by 0.1%).

Bakery products and cereals, and oils and fats rose by 0.6% (EU average prices for bakery products and cereals have not changed, the oils and fats grew by 0.2%), fish and seafood - 0.5% (EU average - by 0.7%), meat and meat products - by 0.4% (in the EU by 0.6%).

The price of sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and sweets on average remained at the level of the previous month (in the EU increased by 0.1%).

Dairy products, cheese and eggs became cheaper by 0.6% (in the EU rose 0.1%).

The EU in may 2019. the most significantly increased consumer prices for fruit as well as fish and seafood, meat and meat products.

Compared to the previous month, the fruits significantly rose in Slovenia (17.8%), Cyprus (15.4%), in Bulgaria, Italy, Croatia, the Czech Republic (7.0-10.3 per cent); fish and sea food in Croatia (2.9%), Denmark (2.4%), Sweden (1.8%); meat and meat products in Bulgaria (3.7%), the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary (2.0-2.4 percent).

In some countries there was a significant increase in consumer prices for vegetables. For example, in Latvia vegetables rose over the month by 6.8%, Czech Republic - 6.1%, Poland - 4.3%.

According to Rosstat, in Russia in January-may 2019 there was a significant increase in the price of vegetables is 25.5% (in the EU is 4.7%).

Fruit in Russia has risen for 5 months by 7.4% (in the EU rose 3%), bakery products and cereals - by 4.3% (the EU average, they rose by 1.2%).

The price of fish and seafood in Russia increased in January-may 2.5% (in the EU by 1.2%), sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and sweets - 1.9% (in the EU - 1.3%), on oils and fats by 1.8% (EU average prices are down 0.5%), dairy products, cheeses and eggs - on 0,5% (similar to EU), meat and meat products - by 1% (in the EU by 1.4%).
