The main trade partner of Astrakhan oblast and the largest buyer of Russian grain is Iran. The volume of transshipment of grain through the ports in the region annually is approximately 1 million tons. At the end of 6 months of 2019, the volume of transshipment amounted to 641,5 thousand tons, which is 15.8 % higher than the same period of 2018.
In addition, there has been a significant increase in the transshipment of food products, mainly due to the growth in transshipment of vegetable oil.
Currently, due to the high demand for grain and vegetable oil, port operators have started to implement investment projects on modernization of capacities and reshaping of new kinds of goods. This was reported in the regional Ministry of industry.
