Specialists in research and development of the Scientific-research Institute of horticulture Alata has developed new varieties of bananas which have higher productivity per unit area.
Two varieties of banana "Grand Nain" and "Alata Azman" is now patented.
The Director of the research Institute of horticulture Alata associate Professor Davutoglu Keles said that the staff of the Institute regularly conduct research studies in the realm of vegetables, fruits, ornamental plants and beekeeping. The purpose of this scientific work is to contribute to the development of agriculture in the country.
Project leader Dr. Mustafa Unlu noted that scholars have focused on performance and quality. In equal conditions and without prejudice to the taste characteristics of the new varieties of bananas give 10 tons per decare compared to 6 tons of conventional banana plants.
At the end of the year seedlings are available to farmers and to be sold with a blue certificate. Blue certificate means that the production of these varieties was supported by the Ministry of agriculture and forestry of Turkey.
