The state Duma plenary session on Tuesday adopted in the first reading the draft law on radiation processing (ionizing radiation) of agricultural products.

According to the document, the fact of such exposure to the product should be reflected on the packaging. Technology of production of food raw materials, food products, drinking water involving their exposure, should meet the radiation safety requirements and be subject to production control.

Individuals and legal entities, in whose disposal is regulated objects, will need to provide special transport facilities for radiation processing.

The bill also requires the Ministry of agriculture and Rosselkhoznadzor to place on their sites registry of quarantine objects using the technology of radiation treatment.
