FAO raised its forecast for global consumption of grains in the 2016/17 MG
According to the forecast of FAO, the total consumption of cereals in the 2016/17 marketing year will increase to 2,567 million tons

Compared to the previous forecast (in December – 2,564 million tons) forecast in January increased by nearly 3 million tons. Including world wheat consumption is expected to reach 736,5 million tons (+3.1% in December to 734.3 million tonnes) coarse grains – 1,330 million tonnes (+1.8 percent, to 1,329 million tonnes), rice – 500,2 million tonnes (-1%, 501,2 million tonnes).
Positive adjustment this month reflects mainly an increase of 2.2 million tons of wheat consumption for food purposes and as industrial raw materials in several countries.
FAO analysts expect the highest growth in consumption of coarse grains in the United States, which is associated with a record harvest last year.
