Officials of the Novgorod region were sent into the field. About two hundred employees of local governments, departments and the electoral Commission gathered on Saturday at the harvest of potatoes, according to the website of the regional administration.

This Saturday - a forced measure. This year the region has a large crop too much. Already harvested 365 thousand tons. The tubers were planted on the area of 460 hectares, many of the land entered into circulation after long periods of inactivity.

However, there is a downside, as farmers just don't have enough hands to harvest the tubers, and if they don't help, just potatoes will rot in the fields. And therefore had to "throw cry" by sending to the potatoes and ordinary people, and officials - so that the vegetables are not wasted.

All the authorities managed to collect about 50 tons of potatoes, report in the administration. It will be sold, and the proceeds send to social needs.

Note that although the field luck with the harvest, this is largely due to favorable weather. For example, last year the region saw a very different picture: then in agriculture were disrupted almost all the indicators, and the production of grain, potatoes, meat, milk amounted to only 80 percent of normal. Officials even had to go to the farmers urging them to plant more potatoes.
