Authorities in Sakhalin region have developed proposals to simplify fishing in coastal marine waters, the relevant documents sent to the Russian President and the Russian government, said Tuesday the press service of the regional authorities.

On March 21 the Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed the authorities of the Sakhalin region together with the Cabinet before year end to consider the allocation of coastal fishing areas for the population. We are talking about resource extraction in the six mile area. According to the press service of the head region, at present the relevant proposals developed and agreed with all concerned agencies.

In particular, the report says, fishing in the six mile area will be able to enter as individuals and employees of small businesses. It will be possible to use vessels up to 24 metres in length, installed satellite equipment allowing them to monitor their whereabouts. It is reported that the coastal fishery participants will be able to register under the simplified scheme — through the multipurpose centers of providing the state and municipal services. On the way out to sea and returning to port would need to notify the port services and regulatory authorities by telephone.

The target species will be underutilized aquatic resources: navaga, cod, flounder, walleye Pollock, spiny crab. In the first stage, the press service notes, will be allowed to produce 30-40 thousand tons of fish and seafood per year. In the future, the figure could rise.
