Labour productivity in the agricultural sector of the Tomsk region has increased to 2 million roubles per person, making the region a leader in the efficiency of agricultural production in Siberia, said the Governor of the region Sergey Zhvachkin.

"We broke the myth of agriculture as a black hole and a bottomless barrel", - said Sergei Zhvachkin, speaking Friday with the report before deputies of regional Duma.

According to him, "budgetary investments in development of agriculture, especially meat and dairy products, accurately hit the target".

"We were able to substitute imports, to ensure food security, to fill the shelves of supermarkets and affordable fresh produce, to create hundreds of new jobs in cities and villages", - said the head of the region.

In particular, it is possible to increase the share of production of high grade milk from 10% to 70%.

"This means that Tomich had the opportunity to buy more of their, high quality and useful dairy products", - said Sergei Zhvachkin.

Investment in agriculture has led to the fact that more and more people connect their lives and the lives of their children at work in the village, said the Governor.

"In 2015, for the first time in many years, we noted a reduction in migration from rural areas. About 1 thousand 800 peasants wished to move to the city. A year ago it made more than 3 thousand 200 people", - he explained.
