Coastal fishermen produced in 2016 almost 775 thousand tons of marine biological resources: it is 67 thousand tons more than in 2015, said Department of fisheries and aquatic biological resources of Primorsky Krai administration.
"Total catch amounted to 774 813 tons, which is 67 thousand tons more than in 2015. Pollock produced nearly 130 thousand tons, 23 thousand tons more than in 2015. The herring catch increased by 1.2 thousand tons – up to 5.6 thousand tons", – said the Department.
Also significantly increased production of squid: it catches only in the North-Kuril subzone amounted to 34.3 thousand tons, 29.3 thousand tons more than in 2015.
A great achievement seaside fishermen in the past year was the resumption after a break of 25 years of the fishery the sardine-iwashi. All were produced more than 4.3 thousand tons of this fish.
The share of seaside fishermen account for a quarter of the total catch in the far East. Only in the far Eastern seas in 2016 produced over 3,031 million tonnes of aquatic bioresources, which is almost 346 thousand tons more than the year before.
