The classification of Russian wines at the place of origin in Russia for the first time has introduced legislation in December 2014. All the wines were divided into three categories: wine with a protected designation of origin (SNMP) wine with a protected geographical indication (ZSU), as well as dinner wines, sparkling, liqueur and brandy.

The Ministry of agriculture and processing industry of Krasnodar region on March 6, 2017 issued an order which to the existing five geographic areas of the province, which can produce wine with a protected geographical indication, added three more.

New areas for production of wine with ZSU coincided with the boundaries of municipal districts: Kuban". The Taman Peninsula" (Temryuk district), "Kuban. The valley of the river Afips" (Seversky district) and "Kuban. Eastern sea of Azov" (Yeisk district).

Earlier, starting in 2015, the Kuban legislated five zones for wine with a protected geographical indication: "Kuban", "Kuban. Noumea", "Kuban. Novorossiysk", "Kuban. Anapa", "Kuban. Krymsk".

Currently, the license for production, storage and supply of wines with a protected geographical indication in the Krasnodar region received five companies: JSC "APF "Fanagoria", "Millstream black sea wines" (both - Temryuk district), CJSC "Slavprom" (Slavic district), OOO "Estate Sikora", "Sommelier" (both - Novorossiysk).
